Gracious country living. The Town of Bayfield is located along
a natural phenomenon called the "Banana Belt". This
is the exact geographical area where the Rocky Mountains meet
the high desert of the Southwest. The result is over 300 sunny
days per year.
Views along Mill Street, in the heart of "old" Bayfield.
This pretty town is a mix of the
old and the new of a small ranching town in the beautiful Pine
River Valley. It sits downstream from Vallecito Lake on the
banks of the Pine River. The earliest residents of the Pine
River Valley were the Ute Indians, and it wasn't until the late
1800s that the valley was settled by non-Indians. The first
cattle were brought to the valley in 1875 and the valley opened
up as more ranchers discovered the fertile land.
This gorgeous scene, located just
across the road from Dove Ranch, is typical of the beautiful
countryside of Bayfield and the Pine River Valley.
Bayfield is the perfect combination
of peaceful country living and the friendliness of a small town
community.
